My Favorite iPhone Apps
These are my top 5 favorite iPhone apps, in no particular order…
- Evernote
Cost: Free!
I’ve been using Evernote for a few years now, and I love it. It’s note-taking that syncs across all of your devices. You can create multiple notebooks and infinite tags, and you can include all sorts of media in your notes. I have it on all of my devices (laptop, desktop, phone), and there’s also a web version. Evernote basically holds the contents of my brain, so this is probably the iPhone app I use the most. - SAS Survival Guide
Cost: $6.99
Okay look, I know not everyone is as fascinated by hardcore wilderness survival as I am, but even if all you do is take long road trips a couple times a year, this is worth having. The app includes the full text of the SAS Survival Guide, a compass, and a Morse Code signaler. Overkill for the average person? Probably. But anything worth doing is doing to excess. - Altered States
Cost: $0.99
A collection of 15 binaural programs that claim to help you reach higher states of consciousness. I don’t know about all that, but they are really relaxing, and they’re great if you need some white noise to help you chill out and/or concentrate. - Kindle
Cost: Free
I usually have my Kindle with me everywhere I go, but this comes in handy for the times I don’t. It’s saved me from brain-bashing boredom a few times now, when I’ve found myself unexpectedly waiting somewhere. - Inception: The App
Cost: Free
Look, I’m not even sure I have the right words to express just how fucking awesome this app is. Here’s a line from the description in the app store: “This app is the first result of Christopher Nolan, Hans Zimmer, and Michael Breidenbrucker’s collaboration using augmented sound.” Basically, it uses a combination of the film’s original score and some completely new tracks, and plays music that shifts depending on the conditions around you: how fast you’re moving, how bright it is where you are, etc. This is one of coolest apps I’ve ever seen.
